Diferencias entre los cilindros de gas licuado de petróleo (GLP) y de GNC

Release time: 2025-06-05

Liquefied Petroleum Gas and Cilindros de gas natural comprimido are both used for storing and transporting gases. They are common fuel sources and are widely used in automobile fuel, household gas, and industrial energy. There are significant differences between the two in terms of physical properties, storage methods, equipment used, and safety requirements. Below is a comparison:

Physical Properties and Composition

LPG
The main components are a mixture of propane and butane, which is liquefied for storage under pressure at room temperature. LPG is a liquid fuel and is stored in a liquid state at pressures typically between 0.5-1.5 MPa.

CNG
The main component is methane, which is the primary ingredient of natural gas. CNG is stored as a gas under high pressure (typically between 20-25 MPa) at room temperature.

Storage Methods and Cylinder Structure

LPG Cylinders
LPG exists in both liquid and gas phases inside the cylinder. The pressure is relatively low, and the cylinder is made of steel or aluminum alloy. The cylinder is smaller in volume, and the wall thickness is designed to withstand the pressure and the corrosive effects of liquid fuel. The design focuses on corrosion resistance and airtightness.

CNG Cylinders
CNG is stored as a high-pressure gas. The cylinder must withstand much higher pressure. High-quality CNG cylinders are made from high-strength composite materials or steel, with thinner walls but higher strength. The design focuses on pressure endurance and lightweight.

Usage Equipment and Application Scenarios

LPG Cylinders
LPG is widely used in household gas, industrial boilers, and as automobile fuel. LPG is easy to liquefy, making it convenient for storage and transport, suitable for small- to medium-sized gas appliances. The fuel supply system for LPG vehicles is relatively simple.

CNG Cylinders
CNG is primarily used in natural gas vehicles, such as buses and taxis. The CNG fuel supply system requires high-pressure reduction devices, and while the storage capacity is limited, it is more environmentally friendly. CNG does not liquefy easily and needs to be refueled at designated stations.

Safety Performance and Inspection

LPG Cylinder Safety
Once LPG leaks, it is denser than air and can accumulate in low-lying areas, posing an explosion risk. Regular inspections include pressure testing, corrosion checking, and airtightness testing of the cylinder.

CNG Cylinder Safety
When CNG leaks, it disperses quickly due to its low density, and while the explosion risk is lower than that of liquid gas, the destruction caused by a cylinder rupture is more severe. High pressure CNG cylinder inspections focus on high-pressure safety performance, cylinder wall thickness integrity, and composite material condition.

Economic and Environmental Aspects

LPG
LPG has a high calorific value, is easy to use, and has flexible storage and transport options. Its price is relatively stable, but it has a higher carbon content, leading to higher CO2 emissions when burned.

CNG
Methane has a cleaner combustion, emitting fewer CO2 and harmful substances, making it more environmentally friendly. Its price is influenced by the natural gas market, and storage costs are higher.
